English Market

Despite the high level of talent needed to penetrate the English market in the USA, in Europe, in the UK, I think it still can be done, but with a lot of effort, really. Taufik does not have Whitney-Housten like vocals but I think that can be worked on. Seriously, I think its the X-factor that would count ultimately. Many US artistes are not vocal powerhouses. Our very Asian powerhouse, none other than Asian superstar cum diva Coco Lee, did not manage to penetrate the US market successfully despite her souful deliveries of award-clinching songs like ' A love before time' and 'Before I fall in Love'. Her diction was slightly American and carried little Asian slang. Her vocals were powerful - comparable to Whitney and Maria's. She was the perfect and best vocal powerhouse in Asia. And being only 29 this year! Why? There can be two reasons attributed to this. 1. the X-factor 2. racism. Being the X-factor, i cannot explain. So lets move on to 2. In the US, little Asian stars or rather, none of them at all, have managed to get through. In actual fact, many DJs and Radio stations in the USA have declined to play Coco's songs because of her ethnic line and some say because her 'name sounds weird!". I have had a chat with Coco's regional marketing adviser once and he said he didn't have problem with Asian companies, but with radio stations and advertisers and companies in the US and Europe, there was a big big problem in getting Coco out. Going into the English market is tough.. but when you succeed, the rewards will be extremely juicy. Not trying to be sarcastic. But truthfully, if you consider it with an analytical mind and drop your idolisation of Taufik, the marketability of Taufik is risky and questionable, if he decides to go into the English market. To speak of the Malay market would be unprofessional - me being a Chinese. But I hope he doesn't go into the Malay market cause I don't know Malay. I wish to hear more world-standard music from a true and talented Singaporean.

My opinion, Taufik must think more pro, more commercial, then he can maintain popularity. Its THE package, not just the voice. Therefore taufik should try recording in English, Malay and even Chinese/Mandarin. He appeals as a wholesome image to Singaporean even foreigners of different background. What is important now is HOW the artiste mgt company charts his path. HOw much say does Taufik in this factor? I hope nobody is gullible enough to screwup his career.

So plz note whoever is incharge of that mgt company, don't neglect Taufik, his hopes and dream. And the hopes of his fans who have made 682,000 calls/sms for their idol. That's nearly $350K on phone charges for Taufik on a single nite. So when the album is out on the 17 Dec, buy it so that it can sell more the 3000 copies to be considered successful in Singapore. Dont think we'll be disappointed by it.

Plz can anybody/somebody put up  TAUFIK IDOL FUN CLUB???

i wld lyk to tell everyone of u to prevent any downloading of taufik's song fm his album once it comes out. if u do know of any of ur frens who download those songs, pls stop them and encourage em to buy his cd instead! cos taufik won't succeed if ppl keep on downloading his songs instead of buying them! and i'm sure every single one of us out here wld like taufik to succeed!

thanks!! that's a really really nice compliment... thankews... i think the songs up for downloading are not available in his cd as they're covers... unless he and the company decides to re-record those covers. most of the i dream music files online are either joint singing with sly or not the complete file, so i think it should be okie right....? i was thinking that if those files remain downloadable, people can have a preview of how great taufik's talent is! then they might buy his album too. just as long as it doesn't affect taufik's cd sales i'm fine with it.
